What are Sessions Like?

  • Your first visit:

During your initial visit I will ask you about your main reason(s) for seeking acupuncture and discuss your medical and personal history, including your living situation, job, lifestyle and stress. We will discuss all your functions like diet, sleep, bowels, urine, menstruation, perspiration, accidents and surgeries, exercise, medications and supplements.Included in this initial two hour session is a physical exam (including blood pressure, palpation and tongue evaluation) and a lengthy pulse reading. The pulse at the radial artery on the wrists is researched for quality as well as quantity. Our whole history is recorded in the blood and can be felt and analyzed by a competent practitioner. Once the main issues are determined I then utilize a sophisticated muscle testing based on the Autonomic Nervous System developed by Dr. Klinghart called ART (AUTONOMIC RESPONSE TESTING) and the German Auricular Medicine to determine any issues that are strong interference fields or blockages that are keeping one locked in a sympathetic fight or flight syndrome and unable to move into the parasympathetic rest and digest and regenerate, or the reverse, or any issues that block the ability to heal in any way. We also find out how your body wants to prioritize these issues for the most efficient way back to health and well-being. Generally no needles, or only a few ear needles are used during this first session. Energy work is done to facilitate a clearing of a strong interference field, and supplements may be suggested.

  • Subsequent sessions:

These sessions are generally one and a half to two hours. Initially it is ideal to be seen weekly in order to create an internal harmony which can be maintained between sessions. As this harmony is achieved, usually after 3-4 weeks, sessions are extended to every other week, every three weeks, then monthly or every 6 weeks. After an initial sequence, many individuals have 4-5 sessions a year (as the seasons change) which is often all that is necessary for health maintenance or just as a treat for some quality personal time. Or clients simply come in for a session if an issue develops.

  • Needle Sensations:

Acupuncture needles are sterile, disposable needles that are very slender, barely beyond the thickness of a human hair. The needles are used to stimulate the acupuncture points. Most insertions are just beneath the skin’s surface and the sensations vary from person to person and often from point to point. Sometimes a person feels nothing at all, often a dull, momentary ache or tingling. The fewest number of needles are used in conjunction with acupressure and other techniques. Warming techniques include far-infrared therapeutic device and hot rocks may be used.

  • After Sessions:

Various changes may occur as the chi is redirected and the healing begins. It is quite common with the first one or two sessions to have a sensation of deep relaxation or even a mild disorientation immediately following a session. These sensations pass within a short time and seldom require more than a bit of rest to overcome. As we reverse the progression of disease from a deep impregnated phase to a more superficial phase like inflammation or excretion, there may be a day or two when the original symptoms surface. Healing takes place in reverse order from whence it came, from above to below and from outside to inside. If symptoms worsen they rarely last longer than 24-48 hours and are not a cause for concern, they are simply indications that the healing process is working.

  • Recommendations after Sessions:

To enhance the value of therapy, the following are important:*Plan your activities so that after a session you can get some rest, or at least not have to be working at top performance, especially for the first few sessions.*Do not eat an unusually large meal immediately before or after a session.*Do not over-exercise or consume alcoholic beverages within 6 hours of a session.*Be aware of your responses and changes in functions during the interim.*Let your thoughts and attitudes reinforce the support each session provides.*Pay attention to your feelings and your dreams.

Common Questions:

  • Fees and heath Insurance:

A few insurance companies cover acupuncture costs, while others have yet to recognize the value of acupuncture. Please consult your insurance company to see if reimbursement is possible. To keep costs to a minimum, I ask for payment at the time of your session. However in certain circumstances payment plans can be instituted. Please notify me 24 hours before an appointment if canceling or the full fee will be charged (unless due to weather or an unforeseen emergency).

Nutrient, drainage and isopathic remedies: Much time and energy has gone into researching the best supplements and best prices out on the market And I bring these pearls of wisdom to you along with your bodies wisdom for the best results and pricing.

  • Relationship to conventional medical care:

In many cases individuals are being cared for by other health care providers and will need to remain in their care. I cooperate with other providers and do not recommend altering medications or other therapies without consulting the personal physician or provider.
